About
the Artist ...
Born an army brat, I had traveled
everywhere from the Midwest, through Europe, and back to Indiana by
the age of 4. Growing up, and even today, I have the most
incredible parents. I was encouraged to find those
moments of creativity through exploration in art and music. My
Mom believed in me so much. For example, she listened to a
radio station and had me enter an art contest. How pumped was
I when I took home a huge Easter basket! Several moments like
those gave me a taste of what art was all about.
Continuing my journey through college, I took a few classes in
contemporary art and art history. To my surprise, something
jolted back to me from my younger years. All those moments of
drawing baseball players and panthers from a magazine revived in me
a passion for art. From trips to Austin galleries to gain
inspiration, to throwing paint on cheap canvases I was hooked.
And then I started working...
In my
fourth year teaching, I found myself stricken with a strange ache in
my jaw. Trips to several doctor's left everyone, including me,
confused and frustrated. For almost a month I was almost
immobile. The art teacher at my school saw some of my attempts
to paint, and he took me under his wing. That summer, I was
changed. The grief that had become a tumor in my jaw was so
painful that I had to find a distraction to my misery. In
treatment, before and after surgery, I created. I put my heart
into works that captured my thoughts and removed me from any moments
of pain. I had found my release.
Now
days are spent creating, experimenting, and studying any chance I
get. I live daily finding inspiration in everything I see.
Walking through life daily has taken a completely different view.
I'm surrounded by God's infinite creations, and they are my
motivation to create. Long after I'm gone, my art will still
remain. So I better get busy, right?
